Turnaround
for Children (formerly Children’s Mental Health Alliance) began addressing
the emotional needs of children and
their families throughout New York City in the wake of the September 11th,
2001 tragedy. Turnaround
for Children, under
the
direction of Dr. Pamela Cantor, formed The
Partnership for Recovery in the New York City Schools along with the New York City
Board of Education. The immediate aim of the Partnership was
recovery from the 9/11 tragedy, but the needs it addressed were
both long-term and universal. While the Partnership was able to boost the
capacity of schools and communities to respond to the
emotional needs of children at a time of crisis, it realized that these needs
continue to arise in the daily lives of children in many New York City communities.
The Turnaround Model is a comprehensive approach dedicated
to meeting the needs of these children.
